The Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm, with its local groups known as Grottoes, is an organization created by and for Master Masons. Although not formally part of Freemasonry, membership is strictly limited to Master Masons in good standing. While the Order is primarily devoted to promoting good-natured fun and fellowship, it also embraces a more serious purpose. Its guiding principle, GOOD FELLOWSHIP, is demonstrated prominently in interactions with others. Before 1889, several members of Hamilton Lodge No. 120, F.&A.M., in Hamilton, New York, sought relief from their daily responsibilities by occasionally gathering informally for amusement and camaraderie. The leading figure behind these gatherings was Leroy Fairchild. In the summer of 1889, he and a group of dedicated companions established the Enchanted Realm — a place where joy, song, and laughter became a lasting tradition. The organization's first official meeting was held on September 10, 1889, where it was formally decided that membership would be reserved exclusively for Master Masons in good standing.
